Our workshops are designed to provide hands-on, practical education to support healthier, safer and more sustainable practices in farming communities. Each session is led by experienced professionals and tailored to real-world farming challenges faced by farmers.  

These workshops are available by engagement and can be delivered on request – perfect for industry bodies, funding partners, schools and community organisations seeking to build capacity in agricultural health and safety.

Available workshops 

Calm the Farm: Creating a happy, healthy workplace 

Duration: 2 hours 

Audience: Farmers, farm workers and rural communities 

This interactive workshop is designed to help farmers, farm workers and farm managers reduce work-related stress and improve mental health in farming environments. Participants explore risk factors, identify solutions and develop a plan to stay positive and productive. 

Key focus areas 

  • Mental health risk factors in farm work. 
  • Exploring how these challenges affect farm businesses.
  • Practical tools and solutions to improve workplace wellbeing. 

Introduction to Gear Up for Ag Health & Safety 

Duration: 90 minutes 

Audience: Secondary school students (Years 9-12, including VET and VCAL)

This introductory session empowers young people to take an active role in farm safety. Delivered by farmer health specialists, the session combines practical demonstrations and interactive discussions to make learning engaging and relevant. It also provides a strong pathway to participate in the full Gear Up for Ag Health & Safety program and to incorporate the Shifting Gears education resources into school curriculum. 

Topics may include: 

  • Agricultural hazards and exposures.
  • Prevention strategies.
  • Respiratory health.
  • Eye and ear safety.
  • Zoonotic diseases.
  • Agri-chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Wellbeing.

Connecting with farming communities

Duration: 2 hours 

Audience: Rural professionals and service providers  

Designed for organisations or individuals working with farmers, this workshop builds understanding of farmer identity, stressors and effective engagement strategies. It includes practical tools for supporting wellbeing and maintaining professional boundaries. 

Key focus areas: 

  • Farmer identity and its impact on mental health.
  • Recognising stress and offering effective support. 
  • NCFH resources and self-care strategies.
